I have taken Gingold's lead and have ordered "The Works" from Gerlitz USA. That includes Guitar Honey' fingerboard treatment; 'No.1' carnauba paste wax; 'Smudge Off' spray cleaner / detailer; and microfiber 'Polish Cloth Duo'. Here is to a sparkling clean guitar!
Seems like cheap insurance for my toys! 0:)

Hi, I use lemon oil about once a year, wipe it on sparingly then a good buff with a cotton cloth to ensure no residue is left. After each time I play I wipe down the fretboard and strings using a cotton cloth and a home made string cleaner based on a product described elsewhere on the Forums, in a thread entitled 'String Cleaner' In between times at string changes I occasionally use a steel wool the lightest guage you can get and use it lightly depending on how grubby the fretboard is.How often is a "blue moon" I use lemon on frets every other string change or about once every two months. Is this too much ?
Thanks
Karl
Depends. When you use it does it soak in fairly quickly or do you have to wipe off as much as you put on? Depending on your environment (heat, humidity, etc.) you may not need to do it that often. If most of it soaks in every time you're doing OK.

Even if you wash regularly, natural oils seep from your pores and the dead and decaying skin that falls from your body congeal into ...gunk and seems to find its way under the strings and backed up against the frets!!Chas, Try washing your hands now and then.
