Thanks Guys, I have been seeing a chiropractor and that helps for about a day or two, then the pains back. Right now it's pretty bad as I type this. Going to try the strap that Gary suggested. I of course have had to back off the playing and that has been hard to do. It's hard to just walk by my guitar and not pick it up. Anyway---thanks for your input. maybe your right tovo "no pain no gain" :(

Go to an Osteopath or a Sports medicine specialist. Chances are your regular Doctor will not be able to help much. You really need to find out what it is now before it gets to a state where it might require serious measures to correct.

A band-aid now or surgery later. (What my Doc says to me all the time)

Thanks for that Andy. Good advise.

I second Andy's advice Terry. You don't want to aggravate nerve damage. need to check it's not some other problem in that area.

Terry, it sounds like a repetitive type of pain, something you do over and over again often produces pain in the tendon and what they move in. A bump or just the repitition can start the inflamation and then everytime you repeat the action that moves that tendon it hurts and keeps the inflamation going. If you do see a doc, he may prescribe an anti inflamatory prescription (ibuprofen) is a good over the counter anti-inflamatory ""if it dosen't bother your stomach"". If you are lucky the strap will help, you will know in a very short time if it works or not, cause you will be able to continue the arm movement without near as much pain. Of course the Doc will tell you to stop doing what is causing the pain, they are programmed to tell you that, but some of us need the use of our arms and have to think outside the box a bit, of course guitar playing in not a necessity of life but it sucks to have to stop playing. Hope for the best. Gary

HI, it does sound like you are resting your arm on the area of the elbow where the ulnar nerve wraps around. Why don't you try making or see if a medical supply store has a device like a "donut" cushion to put on the area of your arm to lesson the pressure on the nerve. If you are having trouble sleeping you probably should not play and if it continues go see your physician or orthopedic physician. Cyclist can get similiar issues from using aerobars or with prolong riding with locked elbows. It doesn't sound like tennis elbow. May be confused with golfer's elbow, though. Tennis elbow is on the other side.

Good Luck

I feel for you Terry.

I've had tennis elbow a couple of times (from playing cricket) which effected my guitar playing.
These conditions can take a long time to get better but there are treatments that can help.
Like other people have said, get some expert advice.
