Gold, I picked mine up for $104 plus shipping - about $20 as I recall. I consider it the steal of a lifetime...

This particular auction is a 'Buy-it-NOW' for $109.00 plus $14.50 shipping...

Solid body guitars are much better for getting sustain, and hollow body guitars seem to give the warmer jazzier tones. That being said, the electronics have a LOT to do with it.

Within the solid body guitar area, you can choose various woods with various densities to get different sounds as well. Mahogany and Swamp Ash are two very popular types.

Hollow Body guitars also vary in wood types for different sounds. Without the "solid" body, the vibrations dampen out faster, and soften a bit for that warmer sound.

Everybody should have at least a couple of each type, right??????????????????

Try selling that one to the boss......

Cheers!

My question:
Is it true that a Hollow Body guitar (generally) will not sound so great when it plays Metal, Rock, and Pop Music vs a Solid Body guitar?
The short answer to the question is NO.

The popularity of solid body guitars in heavy rock or metal, has more to do with "the look", than anything else. At the end of the day, there really isn't all that much difference, from an electronics standpoint. Feedback IS an issue, but in the hands of a skilled player, it's not a problem. In fact, to those who have the hands to control it, the feedback is usable and desired. Especially with pinch harmonics. A true hollow body, like an old Casino, ES-330, ES-175, etc, will feed back more than a semi-hollow, like an ES-335.

I personally believe that the ES-335 is the worlds perfect electric guitar. It does it all; from smooth jazz to death metal. It just seems to be more at home on the jazz stage, than a metal show, from a visual standpoint.

Actually... Here's a video of prog rock genius Mark Hitt of Rat Race Choir, slammin' the hell out of an ES-355. The audio in the video leaves a lot to be desired, but these guys are absolutely amazing live.
