My question:
Is it true that a Hollow Body guitar (generally) will not sound so great when it plays Metal, Rock, and Pop Music vs a Solid Body guitar?
Solid Body Electric vs Hollow Body Electric
I think that the hollow bodies are mainly used by Jazz and Blues players. In the 5o' s and 60's rockers like Chuck Berry were using them because they were still more traditionnal. I doubt that any rockers would use a hollow body nowadays.

A lot of it depends on your amp settings and the pickups being used. I have both solid bodies and hollow. My solid body guitars have more aggressive pickups for playing metal likewise my Hollow bodies have a more mellow pickup for cleaner sounds.

I agree with Mike and Marc- when playing metal or hard rock you don't want any of the resonance that a hollow body provides. Basically a solid body guitar is just a piece of wood to hold the neck and the pickups; the rest is all electronics! :cheer:
So would this be considered a hybrid of both, or just a hollow body electric? They call it the fusion. Link here: http://www.alvarezgtr.com/prod_page.php ... ItemID=234

I guess it's just a thin folk acoustic...

I believe a hybrid guitar will usually have the type of pickup(s) found on electrics, such as humbuckers, as well as a piezo or other acoustic pickup. I'm not familiar with the pickup system on this guitar, but it does appear to be a thin acoustic or maybe one that looks acoustic but in reality is solid or chambered under the top (like, for example, models made by Gibson and Epiphone).
I'm not a rocker - I've been an acoustic junkie all my life - and nylon string, to be specific. But I just recently picked up a sweet little hollow-body electric for when I want a 'brighter' sound. Very playable without an amp, too... and it LOOKS like the old SG Melody Maker my dad used to have...

Don't let the price fool you - they're made in China and I bought one for a friend before I broke down and bought a second one for myself. Once they're set up properly, they're amazing...
