Although it is often categorised as a Christmas song this was not Lake's intention. Lake wrote the song in protest at the commercialisation of Christmas.
The song is often misinterpreted as an anti-religious song and, because of this, Lake was surprised at its success. As he stated in a Mojo magazine interview:
"I find it appalling when people say it's politically incorrect to talk about Christmas, you've got to talk about 'The Holiday Season.' Christmas was a time of family warmth and love. There was a feeling of forgiveness, acceptance. And I do believe in Father Christmas."
You just need to really look at the lyrics and see, this song has been misintepreted, the last verse is quite poignant I particulalry like the last line:
They said there'll be snow at christmas
They said there'll be peace on earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the virgin's birth
I remember one christmas morning
A winters light and a distant choir
And the peal of a bell and that christmas tree smell
And their eyes full of tinsel and fire
They sold me a dream of christmas
They sold me a silent night
And they told me a fairy story
'till I believed in the israelite
And I believed in father christmas
And I looked at the sky with excited eyes
'till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise
I wish you a hopeful christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said there'll be snow at christmas
They said there'll be peace on earth
Hallelujah noel be it heaven or hell
The christmas you get you deserve
(Edit ps)
And oh yeah I'd like this as a lesson!
(Edit pps lol)

Wo wohnen Sie in Deutschland? Welche Arten Musik bevorzugen Sie, und so weiter? Wir mögen alle um einander lernen.
I'm sure your English is far better than my German so I'll stick to my native language. Father Christmas is a great song and I'd really like to learn it.
Does anyone have a good tab for Father Christmas? I have the chords but not the various fingerings?
Welcome again Ralph and please let us know if we can ever help you out!
Tschuss! :cheer:

I have been listening to this great song in the last few days. There are a few people who have posted it as a solo/singer piece on Utube. I wonder if Neil would post this an one more Xmas song video for all of us ? Anyone else in favor, please answer in this thread.

Hi, thx,
I found this songs on Youtube. But I think to play this its better to get base informations about picking and playing.
I have try this to play it before, but I see (after I check Dont fear the reaper on this side) that I play iot before, but wrong. And now I must learn it new (dont fear the reaper).
So I think, difficult songs is better to learn it right from the first step, otherwise you must spent a lot more time to ply it right.
regards
Ralph

Here answers for your questions:
I live in a very small town, only 11000 people lives here. It called Möhnesee.
I love to play old songs from Queen, Jethro Tull, and all other perfect Guitar songs in the past.
I am not realy youg, a little bid over 40, and a little bid to 50 (oh man ....) but I feel very young.
I played and learn guitar by myself in the 70', play until the beginning of 80' and stop for more than 25years.
In a holliday a friend have a guitar in his Holiday rooms. He would like to learn guitar.
I take the guitar and I play Stairway to heaven, after 25 years again. In this moment I feel : buy, learn and play guitar
This is my way
regards
Ralph
I hope my english is ok and you undertsnad it. I have many problems with times, so maybe I can learn here english too.
