Just one thing I would add to what every body else has said.
If you are paying alternating bass, then this is your metronome. The bass should relentlessly thud away 4 times to the bar (right on the beat).
You'll know when it's right because it just thuds away constantly

Maybe you need to go all the way back to the most basic fingerstyle songs and work them until you can play them in your sleep. Look at House of the Rising Sun and others like that. Get the basics down solid and then slowly add onto them.

Tommy Emmanuel teaches you to get the bass notes down solid before you even try to add anything else to it. It requires finger independance and has to be trained.
