You know, I've been reading this thread with great interest, and no i'm not sticking my neck out with a new acronym ladies (although I have given it some thought , then decided I want to keep my membership here). Rating is as we have come to see very difficult, because we are individuals, finding some theory, technical aspects of playing easier than others, e.g. some people can play Classical Gas but not other supposedly easier songs. Therefore ratings have to be individualised to match your goals. Set your long term ultimate goal = 10, then set intermediate goals = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 e.g. Goal 1 might be learn all the open chords in first position this depends entirely on your starting point; someone elses #1 might be learn barre F and play it cleanly. The point of rating is to see improvement and we all improve at different levels and with different things at different times. Now to guage your rating and goals is where a teacher comes in, you need to establish and agree your goals with your teacher (Neil you are gonna be busy lol) then when you think you have attained a goal you could get the TG members to verify that you have reached that goal, then ask Neil to assess it. First though this means establishing realistic goals, now i've posted this before but here it is again:

Letter Meaning

S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Relevant
T = Time-bound
E = Evaluate
R = Re-evaluate

Rating in many educational institutions is done by measuring individual improvement, progress towards a standard, note not necessarily achieving the standard but progress towards it. Our standards could be our goals we set.

Suzi - I think you're way more than a 1, I often look at your stuff and think 'I wish I could play that as well as that'. Maybe you, Megan and I should form the 'Women conquering barre chords club' - (no boys allowed). Hmmm...maybe we should come up with a name that has a better acronym.
You could call your women's club PMS: Practicing Music Sisters

- Dennis
LOL - a lot of chocolate would needed for that group

Agree with so much discussed

I have been trying each day since early December to play each note on the fret board as quick as I can and I made about 150 flash cards of chords and am trying to learn them by sight, notes that comprise them and then play them.
I'm going to try not to get frustrated and just inch along and will give it an entire year - i'll try to learn the most common scales and in-between just have fun playing songs
