Thanks guys, I’ve got the latest release ver. 6.0.5 r8217 (6/25/2010). Still waiting for a response from tech support.

I’m fairly tech savvy – not impressed with GuitarPro 6 as delivered. See the potential benefits of the software – just wish it would play all Guitar Pro files!

I'm very impressed with it the user interface is much improved and the sound bank is sweet as. Definitly better than GP5 and well worth the money.

Now that I've been using the program for quite a while now, I must say that I really like it and haven't gone back to GP5 at all. Definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Question about GP6--

Is is possible to export a GP5 version of a song from GP6? The reason I'm asking is that a few of us have TabToolkit, and it plays GP5 files great- but doesn't play GP6 files.

If it's possible to easily export GP5 files, would TG consider having both available in the lessons? There aren't that many that are GP6 format (yet).

Al, I just tried and GP6 files can be exported in GP5 format. If it is not possible from TG, let me know which one you need and I will E-Mail them to you

Still not able to play GP5 files and have the latest version installed (r8375 - 2010-08-03).

Is there Windows software similar to TabToolkit that will play GP5 files?

Customer support quit responding to my queries and didn’t use one swear word!

Granted - complained excessively – but paid $60 for software that doesn’t play 90% of GP files.

That's really strange that you can't open GP5 files. I just double-checked mine and it opened GP 3,4, and 5 without any problems whatsoever. I have the same exact version of GP on my computer. Maybe something happened with your initial installation or something went awry in your registry.

I don't know if you've tried this already, but you might want to try uninstalling all versions of GuitarPro and then running CCleaner (crap cleaner, it's free, just google it) on your registry so that it also removes all of the registry entries that are associated with the program. Restart the computer and then reinstall Guitar Pro.

Hi Chefrusso,

Followed your advice including CCleaner – no improvement. Hadn’t done a clean install in awhile. Contacted Tech Support after crash – curious to see if they respond.

Is anyone aware of a Windows version of TabToolkit ?

Thanks,
Dan

Sorry it didn't work out for you Dan. I know how frustrating these computer glitches can be. I've had my fair share, that's for sure. 9 times out of 10 it's something stupidly simple like that, a setting or a conflict. At least now you have CCleaner at your disposal which you should run periodically to keep your system clean and bug free. It's amazing the junk your computer accumulates in a short period of time.

For Dan,
The free TuxGuitar program will read GP5.

Now, since Marc verified that GuitarPro 6 can export GP5 files, it would be great if TG could also put files out in GP5 format. The TG files would probably be the only thing I personally would use GuitarPro for.
