I'm not that familiar with Taylor's sizing scheme, so had to do a bit of research on this one. You mentioned that you were moving over from strumming to fingerpicking and thought this guitar might be more appropriate. So I was going to suggest that you also have a look at the Martin 000 series, which is also a small guitar with wonderful tone and a relatively wide neck.

As you well know, the only thing that matters is how it feels and sounds to you, but there are so many Taylor fans here, I thought I'd plant an alternative idea in your head. I absolutely love mine. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

i hear you bear. thanks for the input! if i had the $$ i'd have an 814 AND a gc8! 8-)
That's a great price on eBay! I bought (stole) my 314 off eBay brand new. It was an excellent experience because the seller was very reputable.

I think Guitar Center was selling the GC8 for around $2,250. But they had just sold an 814ce the day before for $2,500 on some super 4th of July sale! Now that is a bargain!

One thing the salesman and I "debated" is the GC8 with a cedar top. Actually we were talking about a 714ce but also the GC8. The cedar top is gorgeous but why would anyone buy the most beautiful sounding, bright, clear ringing guitar on the market and then deaden it with a cedar top. The only reason would be to tone it down which makes no sense to me. He felt that Western Red Cedar is brighter than most cedars (true) but I could definately tell the differences in the tone. I didn't like it!

Anyway, buying any guitar is always fun so enjoy the adventure and let us know if you make the buy! :cheer:

great input. now that my mind is more open to the smaller body sizes, i will definitely try the 000 as i've heard good things about it too.
