If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area next weekend (Sept 18th 2010) this festival is worth visiting. I had the privilege of listening to some fantastic musicians last year – completely free of charge. My favorite was Adam Rafferty playing Stevie Wonder’s greatest hits – on his solo guitar.

Two stages with new soloists and bands every hour all at no charge. Bring your lawn chair.

The evening concerts in the theaters have an admission charge. Last year I just enjoyed the outdoor free concerts.

The Livermore Valley Performing Art Center, in partnership with Guitar Player Magazine, have come together to create Guitar Player LIVE! A guitar festival bringing players, music lovers, guitar legends and exhibitors together for a celebration of music inspired by guitars—free live performances, free artist clinics, the latest gear and more. On Friday night, rock out at the Bankhead Theater with Montrose & Gary Hoey, and cap off the night at the after-party at the Sapphire Lounge and hang out with band members, world class guitarists and other music enthusiasts. Or stay up late for the crazy rockumentary "This is Spinal Tap," screening at the Vine Cinema.

On Saturday, enjoy free live performances on two stages in Downtown Livermore - rock, classical, blues, jazz, bluegrass, acoustic, electric, country, flamenco - free clinics with guitar legends, music merchant exhibits, along with great food, wine and beer. Don’t miss the centerpiece of the festival, Guitar Player's Guitar Superstar

Competition Finals, now in its 6th year. Guitar Superstar pits ten finalists against one another, each vying to impress a group of judges with their technique, tone, melodic sense, and innovation.

Take the rare opportunity to get up-close and personal with world class guitarists as they share their techniques and talents, in Livermore’s historic downtown. If you love guitars and music, don’t miss this "electrifying" event!

If you go to the Guitar Player Live Festival this weekend be sure to walk to Blacksmith Square, 21 South Livermore Ave. Just one block north of First Street where most of the activities will take place. Blacksmith Square will host the acoustic guitar stage. Obviously not as loud as the two main stages and would be easy to miss!
