I was out for a walk this morning and passed a local store that advertises coming acts.

I saw that Yoriyos is coming to town. Who I hear you ask? Well Yoriyos is the son of Cat Stevens. I've seen him play. He's good. But I can't help but wonder if he would get through the door of a record company if his Dad wasn't Cat Stevens.

Who are some others? How important is the "Mum or Dad assist"?

The most famous one I can think of probably would have made it on her own, Liza Minelli – The daughter of actress/singer Judy Garland

I think Norah Jones – Daughter of sitarist Ravi Shankar, made it on her own as well.

On the other hand Nancy Sinatra - Daughter of Frank Sinatra probably needed a lot of help.

Julian and Sean Lennon spring to mind as two who have made it on their own merit, although not astronomically.

Half the battle these days and any days really, is getting a chance to show what you can do.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have 2 kids together, Willow Smith and Jadan Smith, no problems getting noticed here. Jadan Smith, 'Karate Kid' and other parts, the 12-year-old is an actor, rapper, dancer and song writer. 9yr old Willow Smith 'Whip My Hair' (So annoying') my opinion, I'm sure the kids will love it! By all accounts these kids are very talented, but how many other talented kids without famous parents never get heard of?
