I tell them I am a kick-ass guitarist who deliberately gave up my spot in Fleetwood Mac because I knew Lindsay Buckingham had a pretty fragile ego and would struggle watching Stevie fall all over me.

After I wake up, I say I have been playing for a couple of years and that I am progressing with a little help from my friends.
You stole my dream lol

Bill,

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence and the permission.

You're the sweetest.

Do I play the guitar? Hmmm Well I think I do, but I guess it's all in the ears of the beholder.

My response would depend on location and timing........

If I'm walking down the street with someone who is struggling to make conversation, I'd reply - "A little......".

If I'm at a party and they're passing round a Martin, I'd reply - "No".

When I'm asked if I play the guitar, I say no, I just like the look of a man with half-inch fingernails on his right hand, and I assume everyone else does, too.

But seriously, I usually answer yes, do you? There's usually a reason or context for people asking me, and it's often that they play guitar. I don't answer with "I'm learning," because everyone's learning.

I would say something like it is a tossup for time between cowbell triangle and acoustic, but I try and give them all quality time

And Stuart's answer is golden, never volunteer yourself to be the center of some kind of camp fire expadition, every song they will haggle over, and you wont know any of them

I usually reply that I'm just slightly past the only noise part and am getting a few chords down now... so distilled down, I play, but not well.. YET!!
