iPad 2 just announced

There have been rumors galore as to what a new iPad might offer, with most of the speculation being that the iPad 2 would be a minor tweak of the original iPad. It's not. In many ways, it's a complete re-envisioning of the product.

There are literally dozens of important new features which you'll hear about. I'll mention only the few that relate to guitar playing.

- Front- and rear-facing cameras will allow you to shoot your TG videos easily. You'll be able to see yourself on the iPad's large screen while you record.

- New A5 processor is twice as fast as previous A4 processor.

- One-third thinner than original iPad; now thinner than iPhone 4.

- Apple also releases an iPad version of Garage Band which will provide a full 8-track recording studio; virtual instruments will be included, plus you can plug in your guitar and a mic, then add a multitude of effects, if you want. Cost of iPad version of Garage Band? Five bucks.

A note about Garage Band: The Beatles recorded Sgt. Pepper in 4-track on a tape recorder that weighed over three hundred pounds and was the size of a washing machine. The new iPad 2 weighs 1.3 pounds and will (with Garage Band) offer a fully equipped 8-track studio with a storeroom full of instruments.

- Also announced is the iPad version of iMovie which will allow for complete editing of clips right on the iPad. Cost? Again, five bucks.

More to come ...

Of course I will buy one, probably on launch day as usual, of course I will be annoyed that my other new Ipad is already completely redundant..but bring it on, as a geek I cannot resist..

Today though I am buying a 3d hd TV..and google, boxee, and apple box ..

Fun times

Oh Matt. You poor bastard. Life if SO tough on you that you now have the choice of a faster, thinner, more featured even better mobile device. Those wicked Apple people what were they thinking making the lives of geeks around the world miserable... :P

My heart is bleeding.

Gift your iPad to a family member that wouldn't have purchased it for themselves, but will get a lot out of it like a grandparent. Or sell it. B)

I heard that the next version of the ipad 2 will be better. So why not wait for the 3rd iteration and save some $$?

In consumer electronics, every iteration of a product is better than the one it replaces. The iPad 2 is better than the original iPad. The iPad 3 will be better than the 2. The 4 will be better than the 3. So, at what point do you recommend buying a product?

Given the way this works I will maybe have saved enough in time for the iPad 1000 release.
