I'm sure like lot's of people it get's very frustrating when (not being a professional guitarist) you have to do odd jobs etc. and you break / crack a nail on your picking hand.
So has anyone got any tips / magic creams for strengthening nails or simply for keeping them in good condition so they are less brittle in the first place.

Hi martin,
There were a few topics about nails not long ago. Not necessarily about magic creams of strengtheners but rather about acrylic/alternative nails. After reading these posts I started to do some research on nail strengtheners and the like and I was so overwhelmed by the lists of suggested products I never did make any decision. Anywho, take a look at the latest “nail” discussions we had here and you may get some ideas …

Today was my first day back to work after 2 wonderful weeks off. Had all the nails on my picking hand close to perfection. It didn't take 2 minutes after I jumped into the plane and reached down to adjust my seat and there went the middle finger nail. Broke off down to the quick.
So yes it is always a problem with me too.

When the nails break, it is time to play with a pick

It can also depend on which fingernail is broken ... if you can do hybrid picking,
then the pick can replace the thumb and index fingers (I think), and keep the other picking fingers.
Just for that reason, a good motivation to learn hybrid picking (which I gotta do !).
