Playing the Blues

I've been dabbling in a lot of blues (12 bar and some licks as well) lately. Certainly no challenge to SRV (or even our very own Chas) right now, but I do enjoy the style very much and I see it as an excellent way to improve my knowledge of the fret board and what notes sound good together.

I fully understand that blues can be played successfully on an acoustic but I am starting to get that familiar itch again and the axe of choice for blues seems to be the Gibson 335. With a US trip coming up in a week I can sense that I could be visiting a guitar store during that time.

I would really welcome opinions on other options. Just like blues can be played well on an acoustic, I expect any electric would do...so is the relative expense of the 335 really worth it?

Tony, whatever you do, DO NOT play a 335 when you are in the US. They are pure evil incarnate. Once you pick one up, you never want to put it down again. Evil, Evil, Evil. I am getting mine in August. :)

Tony, regarding more the "Blues" subject than the hardware to play it:

I know that you are a Cat Stevens fan, in this video he demonstrates "Peace Train" in a Blues mode, starting at around 2:20.

I freaked !

Hey Pierre nice video mate. Yes I am a Cat fan and enjoyed watching. I think I prefer it in 'standard' rather than blues mode but I so enjoy 'up close and personal' videos like this one. Thanks for posting it.

Consider the range of Epiphones Casino, Sheraton or a 70s Riviera (like mine). They were good enough forthe Beatles, and a few others. Don't look at the reincarnations though get original if possible, then run for the hills cos the wife would never be placated!

"she who must be obeyed and placated"!

HA! It's a world-wide phenomenon!!

Ladies, must you placate "he who mows and trims"? Or do you mow and trim?

tovo, thanks for the chuckle

One who mows and trims.........
