Read the options - yes I am in a wicked mood.
How long did it take you to learn palm muting, with frequent returns to practice the technique?
If you're an 'other' please explain.
OK when I say 'master' I mean that you feel competent enough, or ... whatever you reckon it is.
Curiosity....... something about a kool kat.

I totally had you pegged for 'master-smaster...'. B) :woohoo:
I'm shocked!!!! I designed an option for you and everything...Hey Shel, I voted other because I have absolutely nó idea when, how, or how long it took. It's too long ago! :S All I know is that I don't think I had ever troubles with it, thankfully.

Good for you Andy. The big ... Guy ... Must be on your side.It just sort of came naturally to me. It was actually pretty easy.
Just whack the 2 or 3 bass strings of the chord with your palm resting lightly over the saddle.
Too bad my note by note isn't flowing as smoothly.
Thanks for the advice Andy. Feel free to upload a demo.

Hi Michelle
Well I voted for other because
I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago when strumming a song
I was strumming a bit sloppy and started to mute it then kept going
Got into it and thought wow ok I must give this more time and practice
So hope to practice when my arm is working
So I was using Andys technique

Hi Michele,
I answered other, too. Like Vanessa, I learned how to do this when I was a teenager. The memory of it has been pushed out of my brain a long time ago. It would have been about the time that Neil Young's Harvest album was released. I just wanted to figure out how he made those sounds. No one was around to tell me how it worked. Just trial and error. I would guess that it took an hour or two to figure it out and get it down to an acceptable level. Then about an additional week to get it to the point of total recall.
I use the heel of the palm or the side of my hand to get the "mute" sound that I like. Sometimes it's a heavy hand close to the saddle, and other times it could be a light brush closer to the sound hole. I would guess that there could be as many ways to do this as there are people playing like this.
