Simple question, should be easy. What I mean is "What is music to YOU" not the textbook definition. What does playing and listening to music really mean to you? How important is it to you?

Hoping for some inspiring responses. But I'll take any.

Music to me is the shortest route to the soul I can take. Mine or another's.

Great question Tony!

Music is something that is great to listen to and can evoke an emotional response. Music can change your mood from sad to happy or vice versa. Music can be a rollercoaster of a journey. Music is a passion and a love to me. Music can tell a story. Music is a fun pastime. Music brings people together. Music is memories.

What does it mean to me?................. Everything!............ both in playing and listening. :)

IMHO, you couldn't have said it any better, a major AMEN from me.........!!!

The older I get, the more amazed I am about the power of music, what a major force.......almost impossible to put down in words, but as I already said, Chris gets my vote! ;)

Hi Tony,
What is music to me?
The language of our feelings, a gift to us of nature. Music and painting, somehow similar to how they interact with us.
How important is music to me?
It's something I've always wanted to learn and I'm finally doing it, so my answer is, a lot, to be accurate :) .

Don't know about inspiring but to me its many things at different times:

Its something I try to achieve playing the guitar, truthfully its a series of personal goals, different genres/songs etc.. Its also:

my stress reliever,

an escape,

how I relax

a hobby

a means to interact with others...

For the longest time, I thought music was the thing with feathers that perches on the soul. And sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all. And sweetest in the gale is heard, and sore must be the storm. That I heard in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea. Yet never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me.

But then I realized that the thing with feathers is actually my nephew, Dennis. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich.
