I call this my "stay in the car until it's over" list. And it is hard to limit it to just five, so I'm listing six:
Taxi by Harry Chapin
Hummingbird by Seals and Croft
American Tune by Paul Simon
Roundabout by Yes
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel
American Woman by the Guess Who
I'm sure this gives away my age, by hey, I'm a product of my time.

I have been thinking about this, and I have to admit that narrowing this down to five is impossible. I finally did pick just five, but I am sure after I post this and read the list again, I won't be satisfied with it. I tried to keep the list comprised of songs that were from the 70's and 80's just because they have stood the test of time and still rate as songs I won't change the channel for. Some are on the list because I love the lyrics, others because the melody grabs me. I may catch crap about some of them, but I have to admit that when they come on, I don't change the channel and I usually end up singling along, even after all these years.
Jackson Browne - My Opening Farewell
Boston - More Than A Feeling (as mentioned previously)
Dave Loggins - Please Come to Boston
John Denver - Rocky Mountain High
Christopher Cross - Sailing

Dream On - Aerosmith
To me, this is on par with Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven", thankfully, with less radio overkill.
Child in Time - Deep Purple
The tune that said "Hey, haven't you just turned 14 ? Is that why this makes sense ?"
Boy in the Bubble - Paul Simon
Because this is actually so insightful, even prophetic.
A day in the ... (oh, no Beatles allowed ! sorry ....)
Into the Great Wide Open - Tom Petty
Melody and mood ... and tone !
The Man Who Sold the World - David Bowie
Because I know a sequined philosopher when I see one
Ahh, one more, just to be naughty
Boston - Peace of Mind

i won't change the channel until I hear that scream in this one (love the rock organ intro too).
That scream is at 7.45 if you just want to take a hit!
...and for the visuals:
