This week we brought out a couple tunes from the 1960s- It's My Party by Leslie Gore and More Today Than Yesterday by Spiral Starecase. This inspired me to start with a little of the melody to More Today Than Yesterday, which led to a breakdown of some standard jazz fingerings for chords with the root on the 6th string. This happened to be a segment in the lesson, which also included a look at the bass part.
And continuing with recommended lessons, I talked a bit about some of our advanced instrumentals, including The Girl From Ipanema, Mood For A Day, God Only Knows and Classical Gas. Getting into The Girl From Ipanema reminded me of and original piece called Along The Way, which I played in its entirety.
