This week I got sidetracked into catching up with lessons on some Tom Petty songs that I had been meaning to get to for years. Just a couple loose ends and now Wildflowers and Mary Jane's Last Dance are in the TG Library. Most of his songs are relatively easy to play but usually feature some important techniques. Both songs are now in our Tom Petty Pack, along with a couple Traveling Wilburys tunes.

Last Saturday we had a good time with our latest TG Live episode where we looked at a bunch of Jim Croce songs with about 75 people online. The video is available to all who registered and has been added to our Jim Croce Pack. We plan to keep these type of webinars as a regular feature going forward but you have to register in advance so keep an eye out for them.

Another request that came in recently was for a lesson on Al Stewart's tune The Palace Of Versailles. Of course it is based on The Earle Of Salisbury, a pavan by the early 17th century composer William Byrd. We have had a lesson here for a while of John Renbourn's arrangement and I have mused about covering Al's tune from his album Time Passages.

The mention of Renbourn reminded me of a something that happened just the other day pertaining to a break through on a piece I have struggled with for about 50 years. I told a bit of the story and ended by playing a few of his very early pieces: A Day At The Seaside, Debbie Anne and Another Monday.

That's about it,

Neil

The Earle of Salisbury and The Palace of Versailles share that beautiful melody, but I submit to you, sir, that melody was invoked once more in Ennio Morricone's Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso in 1988. Or, all these notes are finally colliding in my brain?

It is going to take awhile, but now I need to work on your lesson on The Earle of Salisbury.

Wrench...

Great call! I have always been under inspired by this beautiful piece, feeling it was too familiar. Nailed it!
