The guy is 3/8 of the way across, and can run backward, and beat it, or run forward 5/8 of the way, and still beat it, that's the big clue.

Train must be going 39 by the math logic presented here. >4x the speed of the man.

Are you guys sure you want to stay with 40 mph for the train?

If the man can run at 10 mph, that is 14.66 feet per second.

If the train is moving at 40 mph, that is 58.66 per second.
