In this last episode of Music Gear reviews we share some more thoughts on purchasing a Les Paul guitar with Jack Van Breen. Jack gives us a full introduction the Les Paul guitar.
In the early 1950s, Gibson needed a solid body guitar to compete with Fender Telecasters and Stratocasters. Introduced in 1952, the Les Paul was designed by Ted McCarty in collaboration with popular guitarist and innovator Les Paul whom Gibson enlisted to endorse the new model. With a mahogany body with a carved maple top, it had warm tones and great sustain. In the 1960s it was popularized by Eric Clapton with Cream and Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac with its thick, creamy tone. Along with Mick Taylor and John Mayall, many bands used Les Pauls.
