In this episode of Music Gear Reviews Jack van Breen from Guitar Showcase in San Jose, California has an interesting segment on Gibson Custom Shop Vintage Old Spec Guitars. While Gibson has ’58 and ’59 Les Pauls, attempts to duplicate the guitars, while nice, did not have that vintage sound.

And why — turns out in the 50′s, quality wasn’t rock solid and the guitars would vary, the pickups vary, etc Once, Gibson mixed in a little variation in the bodies, pickups, etc, they recaptured the vintage sound. Any TG folks in Nashville TN — if so, why don’t you take your video camera down to the custom shop and do a segment.

Hope you enjoy this

Cheers

Matt

This video has attracted a LOT of attention around the internet. And not the good kind either...

I only mention it, because the TG brand is attached to this video, and there really isn't one accurate statement in the entire video... NOT ONE! Even the video title is inaccurate... VOS is an acronym for "Vintage Original Spec", not Vintage Old Spec... What Jack refers to as a "tang", is actually called a tenon, and ALL of the Historic, "R" model, Reissue, Les Pauls have exactly the same tenon, which extends into the neck pickup cavity, the same distance, and much in the same way as it did in vintage LP's.

I could go on and on.
