In this episode of On The Beat-Totally Guitars Weekly Wrap Up Feb 25, 2011.

We wrapped up Psychedelic Rock Week with tunes by the Jefferson Airplane, Donovan, Iron Butterfly and the Strawberry Alarm Clock, a band noted for the start of Ed King's career before he joined Lynyrd Skynyrd. We also brought out the 3rd part of Neil's piece Quicksand. There was quite a variety of Student Reviews, including songs by
Supertramp, George Harrison, Paul Simon, and even a little Country Blues picking.

Our Vintage Snapshots section had a couple of old Gibsons spotlighted by our friends at Guitar Showcase, an electric 12-string 335 and an L5, a classic jazz guitar. The Luthier's Corner had Keith Holland in a series about different kinds of pick ups you might consider for your acoustic guitar.

We had another 5 songs from Muriel Anderson in our Acoustic Snapshots department. She played a few original pieces along with her beautiful instrumental arrangement of Vincent, by Don McLean. Neil also talked about our latest 10 Packs of songs by the decade. Last week we released our 90s Pack and this week the 2000s Pack. Each package has lessons on songs by 10 different artists covering a wide range of styles and levels.

Once again Neil gave us a hint about next week's lessons, but you'll have to tune into the News for that...

Hope you enjoy this

Cheers

Matt

Ok, I'm guessing the album is Forrest Gump and the songs....

Let's Get Together - Youngbloods . . . . . . . 3

Joy to the World - Three Dog Night . . . . . . .4 or 5

California Dreamin' - Mamas and the Papas . . 5 or 6

Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine - Fifth Dimension. 6 or 7

Well, that's where I might rate them after playing them anyway.

Wow, great guess Andy, and way to think outside the box!

Except that we have done Get Together and California Dreamin', but you could be onto something with the "one album" idea. I'll keep everybody posted as interest develops.

We did? Hmm... See what I miss?

Ok, then I'll replace those 2 with;

Break on Through - Doors (Even though I don't like them)

Everybodys Talkin - Nilsson

I bet Neil has all those old KTell compilation albums hidden in his basement.

I am sure a lot of T.G.ers have some great ideas for 80s week down the road but I thought throw some out.
(Even though I'm sure what ever you come up with will be cool anyway.)

Suggestions, sorry I got totally carried away...

Talking Heads-Burning Down the House, Once in a Lifetime, Psycho Killer, And she was, Take me to the River, all
good tunes...

The Cure- Just like Heaven, Pictures of you, Lovesong, Friday I'm in Love... all good

Cyndi Lauper-Time After Time, True Colors, I drove all night

A-ha- take on Me

Devo-Whip It

New Order- Blue Monday

Love & Rockets-So Alive

Midnight Oil-Beds Are Burnin' and others

The Cars-several

The Clash-several (too bad... London Calling was '79)

The Police-lots of good stuff, King of Pain is awesome.

*Echo & the Bunnymen-Killing moon (resurrected recently because of the movie Donnie Darko movie)

*Tears for Fears/ later Gary Jules-Mad World- (also recycled by the movie Donnie Darko) on recommend a lesson

Joshua Tree era U2 & Early R.E.M

Some kitschy ones: Alannah Myles -Black Velvet and Georgia Satelites-Keep Your Hands to Yourself
White Lion-When the Children Cry and Tesla's Lovesong are tolerable classically- tinged hairband tunes.
