Hi guys and gals,

Well, I thought I had what I needed to make some better recordings, and maybe I do, but I need some help, if you will.

What I have right now is:

[li]--- a Unidirectional Dynamic mic with 1/4" jack. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2123173
--- a Mono Adapter for the 1/4" jack (1/4-3/8) to plug in the back of my computer
--- The mic is plugged in to the mic port on the back of the computer.
--- My on board sound card is Realtek AC97
--- Logitech Webcam C270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-NA-_-NA[/li]
--- Audacity

Can someone run me through the setup? I tried to make the recording but there's very low sound on playback. I've run the recording with my webcam and with Audacity. With Audacity, I can record my voice, but it doesn't pick up the guitar :S

I've gone through what I know of the Sound settings in my Control Panel, but I may be missing something. I've set the microphone there to Realtek, and playback, too.

All help appreciated.

What version of Windows are you running? Or is it a MAC/Apple?

Have you looked at the "Properties" of the microphone? Go to start->control panel->sound, choose your Realtek mic and select "Properties". Perhaps look at the "Levels" tab and increase the "Microphone Boost".

Yeah, I looked at those and made some adjustments.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm using the correct input on the computer.Should I use the mic port, or the line in port? I have only my acoustic, with no amp or other hardware.

Also wondering if I should somehow disable the mic in my camera (conflict issue?). For some reason, I had a connection from my monitor to the line in port, so I removed it, and tried that for the mic; some improvement, but not a lot. I don't really see any mic in the monitor, I wonder if it has speakers!! confused

Definitely use the mic input for the microphone.

If your monitor has speakers then the cable should be connected to some line-out or headphone jack. What kind of monitor (make and model) do you have?

If you think you might have a conflict with your camera's mic just unplug your camera and see how your Radio Shack mic behaves.

Have you looked at your "Devices" settings in Audacity? go to Audacity->Edit->Preferences->Devices

The monitor is a Synaps LA1610 15.6 inch flat screen

I saw somewhere that your monitor has internal speakers.

did you look up the model number? how would I turn them off; I don't see anything in the monitor control settings.
