It was an interesting week here at TG, although I could probably
say that almost every week. The new things for me were spending
a little time trying to relearn a few songs I have grossly neglected for
many years, and working on our September plans. There are a few
more details about that in today's News, needless to say. As far as
the neglected songs, well, let's just say you need to watch if you are
interested in seeing me butcher a few of my own songs!

Other subjects that wandered through the update included the recent
Target releases, some comments of a few Forum threads, and a couple
of books that I consider essential reference materials for all guitar players.
The books are The Guitar Player's Handbook by Ralph Denyer and
The Alex de Grassi Fingerstyle Guitar Method. Links can now be found on
our Recommended Products page.

The Target Lessons for the week-
The Youngbloods- Sunlight (Jesse Colin Young)
Nick Drake- River Man
Pearl Jam- Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, FOTW with Kevin
Dire Straits- Romeo And Juliet, FOTW with Ed
Student Review of Bach's Prelude In Dm

I may have trouble shooting the News next week as I am off to Florida
for a week of college softball and visiting a few relatives. So until next time.

Stay Tuned & In Touch,

Neil

Thanks for the week of lessons Neil
Looks like your surgery went well as you seem in good form.

I loved the FOTW's, it amazes me how you can listen and instantly recognise and can play
what you hear.

Have a great weekend, a perfect one

Just A Thought
If your ever teaching a lesson and content is paralleled in either of the recommended books
can you post a page number(s) ?

So being that good doesn't happen by accident, when I find myself getting up at 2am to re-learn a song I once knew, I'll know I'm on the right path...

Wow, Now thats some great fingerstyle guitar playing!

Mystery tune #1 is Snapdragon from the Cobble Creek Album and

the second tune was SOS from the On the Horizon album.

There are many more outstanding pieces on each of those albums.

I'm a bit partial for Papa's Guitar from the Horizon album.

HI Gang,

Thanks for the comments. I probably forgot to mention on News how much fun it was putting together River Man, although fun may not be the best word, maybe more emotional and inspiring, and a lot of other feelings I can't put into words right now, (and not just because it's early in the morning here!).

I am really having a good time revisiting old pieces now. Sometimes you forget about things as time passes and pulling memories out of the fog can be incredibly rewarding and certainly inspirational in its own right.

Music is an amazing thing!

As much as I love to listen to Neil when he is flying on that guitar of his... I love it when he's fumbling and stumbling like the rest of us (sort of, just at a 11 levels higher!). I'll know I'm getting there when I get out of bed in the middle of the night to practice! And I can confirm there's loads of great songs on his albums.
