Hi Everyone,

We have a new interview series featuring Mark Yamanaka.

Mark did not grow up in a house where the Hawaiian language was spoken so singing in Hawaiian presented quite a few challenges. We talked about the importance of accuracy and attention to detail required to properly convey the emotions and expressions.

We also compared singing and slack key guitar, and how musicians need to follow their passion to be successful. Once we got on the passion line, Mark brought up the fact that not many young Hawaiian musicians are playing traditional music, opting more for Island Reggae and other contemporary styles.

Enjoy!
