Hi all,
Over a prolonged period of time, I have binge-watched videos of a whole slew of tutorials related to building guitars.
That includes factory tours, luthier-specific techniques and tips, generic wood-working, fancy jig-building techniques, you name it.
Lots and lots and lots of them, and ... did I say lots ? Lots.
But so far, this video is the one that has impressed me the most ...
Of course, there are as many approaches to this craft as there are luthiers, but here is a process captured so very evocatively.
I found it just beautiful to watch ... for a whole hour !
Hope you enjoy
Pierre

Oh Pierre! Now you've gone and done it...added something else to my bucket list. I'd have to sell my house to own one of them  Come to think of it...if I ever did buy one, I'd be single again and looking for a place to live
Thanks for the video link, It is truly inspirational. So nice to see someone using hand tools and doing it so skillfully.

I am traveling for work this week so I just spent the necessary hour to watch this video. It was well worth the time! There were many segments in the video that caught my attention that was remarkable. For example, if you have the time, Google Alpine (Moon) Spruce, from the Swiss Alps. This is the wood he used on the sound board of this guitar. (I actually have a GC Custom guitar that uses the moon spruce so I have already researched it) Very interesting information. He only uses the best and expects only the best results. Wow!
Thanks for sharing this Pierre. I enjoyed watching it and appreciate his talent!

Chacho, I have been fortunate to try out some high-end guitars recently, worth less than that.
I actually got emotional on hearing them, and even shed some quiet tears.
Which makes me wonder if I might just bawl out loud if I tried one of these here ones ...

Bill, that is an important part of this video's impact for me, since I have some hope of eventually doing some lutherie.
I've found that wading into this endeavor is even more complicated that at first glance.
So, gotta research everything and anything ... tools are crucial !

Bart, I am surely interested in any additional info about tonewoods, so much appreciated !
As a cosmic reminder of how the stars can be aligned:
I researched the luthier in this video: "Michael Greenfield", and found that his enterprise is actually (really!) within a half-hour drive from my home.
So it turns out that I just need to gather the 15k I have littering my drawers and desktop, put an elastic band around it, then spend a bit on gas, and the baby is mine.
I just wish I had known this a long time ago !

Pierre,
That is truly cosmic! Tools....I love them, and have many myself. I have hand tools that belonged to my Grandfather (he was born in 1860). I still use them. I'm excited to hear you are contemplating lutherie...go for it! Knowing how close Greenfield is to you, you should pay him a visit. I'm sure he would welcome you. Again thanks, for the video. I've already watched it again.

Oh, no Bart, oh no! I was just reading Bill's post and I thought of you. I thought, "I hope Bart doesn't see this thread about the $15,000 custom guitars made with Google Alpine spruce!" I continued reading, trying to cover my eyes, but it was too late. I saw your post! But my fears subsided as I read that you already have a custom guitar with that Alpine spruce. Phew! I thought you might be the one looking for a place to live.

Great video, thanks for posting it my friend! Great to hear he's no far away from you in Montreal, I foresee a visit
I was in awe of the steps and process involved and the love of the work Greenfield shows. I get a tremendous sense of satisfaction when I see someone spending their working life doing something they love and that is so purposeful and of such integrity. Isn't this the meaning of life? That and playing great guitars, what else?! Greenfield has it all down pat. Brilliant!
