Hi All,
Here's a technical question for anyone with a good understanding of computer technology:

I've been trying to learn a song called Railroad Bill, which is a fairly old traditional song covered by alot of people including Bob Dylan. There are quite a few really good youtube covers of the song, one of which I will link to below. I was wondering if there is a way to take the audio component of this youtube video, save it to a file, and put it on my iphone for listening at my leisure. I was thinking there must be a program that does this type of thing. Perhaps there are some legal issues with this, but I thought I'd ask. In the meantime, enjoy the video. I'b a bit obsessed with this song at the moment.

Hello Jay,

Sorry I can't answer your question! Just commenting on this performance and song. I can certainly see why this song sticks in your head, very catchy tune...

Reminds me of a lot of Travis Picking songs where that thumb is steady and everything else can be a bit random. Even sounds a lot like "Freight Train" that Dave Nachmanoff performs during his shows. (There is a lesson on that song here on TG).

Anyway, nice tune and one that would be fun to play.

Hi Jay,

Maybe "Audo Recorder for Free" could be what you're looking for to create mp3 files of the sound that is playing on your computer.
I've used an older version for years now, hopefully the current one is just as practical.

To use this program, you will need to designate your sound card (not your microphone) as recording input source.
If you need a bit of help to do this, message me.

Hi Jay,
Bob has mentioned Song Surgeon, the same company to get around various legal problems have a product that downloads anything
using a choice of methods. I have it at home (at work just now) I think it's called downloadsurgeon or something like that. The cool thing is
you can save the audio only. or both video and audio. It is to be used with Video Surgeon. I only have an old version of Song surgeon
that Bob mentioned, so not sure of everything that software can do.

Here are links to both. Hope this is useful.

Hi Jay,

I use an old version of an iSkysoft product. Here’s a link to what I think is the current version.

https://www.iskysoft.us/imedia-converte ... e-mac.html

They make it for Mac and windows.

It was really cheap when I got mine. I think it’s gone up a fair bit over the years.

Have fun.
