July 9, 2021

I opened today in the usual style, some noodling on the recent lessons. The week started with Bad Weather by Poco and ended with At The Zoo by Simon and Garfunkel. In between we got a very cool and important lesson from Doug on Practicing With A Metronome, something everybody should get comfortable with. This led to some thoughts about Paul Simon’s fingerpicking in general but specifically the roots of how it evolved. I brought up some ghosts of the recent past, like John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, and the leader of the movement, Davey Graham. Needless to say, this turned into some variations on Anji.

The last thoughts this week turned to next week, and particularly a road trip that we are planning through Oregon. I would appreciate any suggestions on things not to miss if we have a little flexibility. I look forward to your thoughts and will be back with the Weekly Update in two weeks.
