June 20, 2025

This was the week that was supposed to be the Hogan Ohana return to the real world after the family trip to Nani's ancestral home. Last week I mentioned how the trip started with a 17-hour flight delay, getting us into Oahu in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The next eight days were fabulous, spending time with our kids, their spouses, grand-baby Kepa, and our local cousins. We moved to The Big Island and were joined by my sister and niece, spent a lot of time at and in 'Anaeho'omalu Bay, caught sunsets, met up with Hawaiian Legend John Keawe, and all was peachy keen... until the last bookend when almost everybody came home with covid.

When we look back at this trip we hope to forget the bookends and remember all the great times spent with the family in that beautiful place.

On the TG front - a couple new lessons: When I Need You by Albert Hammond and You Got It by Roy Orbison. A lesson I had just yesterday inspired today's theory/technique tip, which revolved around The Joker by Steve Miller. My student and I did a deep dive into I-IV-V progressions in the five guitar-friendly keys, then went into right hand strumming/picking tips.

We are also less than three months out from our Fall International Guitar Camp and have room for a few more students, but the window will be closing soon. Take a look at the site and contact us if you are considering joining.

Off to our next celebration - 40th wedding anniversary in Santa Cruz this weekend.
