lol...I did see the mixing part, but unless you want me to cut in exciting and dramatic clips of me at the computer keyboard, I won't appear in the video. I'll play a bit, sing a bit, perhaps harmony and mix it all together.
Would you like a reference track? I'll play the whole thing to metronome, you all can record to it through headphones, or just record direct line in if you have it.
Regarding the videos...
I don't need to see your fingers playing, so don't shoot it like an educational video. Let us see you playing, face and all.
If you can supplement natural lighting with incandescent that would be great. The brighter the better. Flourescent not so much.
Take a look through the view finder before you record. Try to get a non-distracting background. Make the bed, put that laundry in the hamper, do your homework, and be home by 11. Wait a sec, that's for the children. Uhhhh....Non-distracting background, no backlighting please.
Check your sound levels once before recording for the final time.
Make sure you don't clip, but don't make it too quiet. If you have a meter, in the yellow most of the time, but rarely in the red. If you are using a webcam, you can usually find an audio tuning setup to check your volumes, just play instead of reading the canned speech. I can fix many of the problems associated with sound, but clipping I can't.
Don't add in effects before you send it to me. I'll take care of that in the final mix.
Don't worry about your singing. It's not as bad as you think. If you hit a clunker you are worried about, let me know and I'll tweak it so it's in tune.
Wear something colorful. It doesn't have to be a Neil style hawaiian shirt....although that would be funny if we all wore one, just pick a color like solid blue, red, etc. Black and white on videos just wash you out or make you look fat.
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
A long distance collaboration

Wandoctor that's fantastic thank you. Please go ahead and post a reference for everyone, you will have my eternal gratitude as I would first need to learn the tune and that is holding us up. I know it's not a difficult piece but the quicker we get moving the better.
Reiver, big thanks to you as well. My logic is that Wandoctor may be able to get right onto it and it will be up by the time you are back. Then you can concentrate on harmonica.
Now I am REALLY excited. Thanks guys.
Willem, thanks for confirming. Can others (apart from Reiver and Wandoctor) do the same please?

Tovo,Wandoctor & whoever else: if we do our video and audio recording and download it to YouTube, say for the basic guitar part as it sounds like even those playing different parts will be shown on video also (i.e. don't need to see your fingers - wear colorful clothes). It's exciting this is coming together, there was a Garry 2 r's mentioned, I'm assuming that is me although I have only one r Gary, also Goldleaf. Thanks for the forthcoming info re: recording a video and downloading to Youtube. Gary
Just a tip..
But if you have short term communication objectives that dont need a permanent forum record..here, you may just want to hash stuff out together then post the final decision..use the Live chat...co-ordinate a meeting and chat live at the same time..
Just a thought

Goldleaf, you're absolutely in, sorry if I caused confusion with poor spelling mate!
Thanks to you for confirming and you too Wrench.
Now waiting (with patience) on the Wandoctor!
No worries Matt. It's just difficult to find a time when everyone is available to chat live. Posting here allows people to catch up at their own pace. I assume the thread is not bothering other people? They can just ignore it if not interested. Anyway, I know you are just making suggestions to use all available resources and I'll keep that in mind.Just a tip..

Tony - I was going to offer my support with the rhythm guitar part. But, you've obviously got lots of support in that department already (probably more than you need). And I'm still getting it under my belt properly anyway. So I'll enjoy it from the stands and contribute to another collaboration once you TG pioneers have tested the ground.
Have fun guys...I'll be barracking for you all and waiting with baited breath for the post.
