Awesome Michelle! Your playing and singing was just great! Your videos have become simply outstanding. When you say you are going to start a thread, you aren't kidding! :laugh:

Michele:
It is always a pleasure to watch your fingerwork on the fretboard. You play quite beautifully. Throwing in the singing with the fingerpicking just took it up another notch as well. I had to watch it twice, cause I could not find the "warts and all" in there.......
Wonderful work young lady.
Have a great holiday season!

I love that song Michele and you played and sang it so well. Beautiful! You are back with a bang! So good to see.
Great idea to make a love songs category.
Great idea to make a love songs category.
It never ceases to amaze me how supportive and generous this community it. A BIG thank you everyone that commented.
Kevin - Thank you. I love receiving a 'Bravo' from you. I didn't even know who Croce was until I heard you play 'Time in an Bottle' and you had me thinking 'I have to learn this song' after a bar or two. One day I'd like to play the real versions as well as you do. That WOULD be something. - There's no snow in Sydney yet. But, there was a big dump on Mount Kosciuszko (which is in my state) and the surrounding area. Freaky.
Suzi - Thanks. I LOVE that you loved it. Another mutual admiration society that we have going here. (I'm referencing Tony's response here too). Sue has heard it a million times. She thinks it is a beautiful tune, but mostly grins sweetly (and wickedly) at me when I sing because she knows it's not my strength and that I fall to bits when I try to sing it to her - I get too soppy and my voice cracks up. But, yes if I can hold it together then I can make her mist up. Re: the stretches, it has taken me AGES to get my hand to stretch properly and to be able to play all the notes clearly. I didn't actually manage to play them all properly for the video, there were some thuds but I distracted you with my singing. If you like the song, it is worth persevering with it I think. Some suggestions if you're interested in learning it:
- Capo it a little further up the neck to start with and that will definitely make it easier. I actually mostly practiced it without the capo, which made the stretches harder at the time, but easier when it came time to start singing it (when I capo up the neck);
- If you look closely, you'll see that I put my ring finger down first for the Dm. This helped me to stretch back to the rest of the chord. But you need to be quick. If you put your fingers down in the order that the notes are picked it is harder to make the stretch;
- Position your thumb a bit lower on the back of the neck, it gives you more space to play with;
- Just keep trying and little by little it will come. If I can do it, I know you can do it.
-Once you've got this down you've almost got 'Annie's Song' down. The progression and bass line are really similar. So it's a two-for-one.
Happy holidays to you too. You're a sweetie.
Daryl - I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's nice to be able to pay back a bit of the enjoyment I've gotten from listening you your great performances.
Stuart - I hold you up as one of my yard sticks so I'm very glad you loved it. That puts a smile on my face. I'm wondering when your next performance will be. I bet you've got love songs in your song book. I bet you could out soppy my choice given our mutual attraction to sad songs.
Ness - Now I KNOW you'll be up for the love song challenge. In fact, I suspect that you might have quite a few so don't hold back, there's plenty of space in this thread, just keep them coming. Thanks so much for the standing ovation. That's really generous. The sections of video where I forgot the words and my voice cracked terribly because I got all blubbery hit the cutting room floor. Thank the Goddess you can just keep recording until you get an OK take. I would have kept taping to eliminate the playing errors, but my untrained voice wasn't handling the pressure. I bet you'll be the first to post. Let's see if anyone can beat you. I wonder who's up for the challenge.
Cori - I'm glad you liked it. How's Bohemia Rhapsody coming along. I don't think I've seen it recently, or for that matter the song you were writing with your wife. I'd love to know how that's shaping up.
Dennis - I LOVE getting a response from you. THANK YOU for your sweet words. I have NO doubt that you could play this better than me if you put your mind to learning it. I've started learning Autumn Leaves as you know and it's got me a bit beat, but it didn't stump you. BTW - I'm happy to play for you any day. Well I may get performance anxiety, but the will is there. I like to sing low when the opportunity arises. But, gee it's been a long while since I've done any 'nad reaching. Don't tell anyone about your observation, it might spoil my cred and confuse people. Re: guitars, I'm guessing you've got a similar number of guitars still, but that you keep them nice and protected in their cases. I love looking at them as well as playing them. I must admit though it's hard to pull together any credible sort of argument to Sue that I NEED another fancy guitar, especially when she comes in and says 'look at al those guitars'. She doesn't have or get GAS. Mind you she gets and has TAS (Tech Acquisition Syndrome). There are just so many interesting types, woods, shapes, sounds, looks... I avoid music stops. Must stop looking at EBay too. THanks your your support. You're a sweet friend.
Mark - I'm glad you liked it. I've seen your playing and I have no doubt that you can play this song. I've started learning some strumming and flat-picking songs. You're definitely a role-model on that front.
Willem - Thanks. I think you must be being shy or you're going to spring a love song on us when we least expect it. I'm sure ABBA has love songs and I KNOW the Beatles do. You're right, the busking idea is liberating. I really hope more people will take advantage of these threads and the uploader. I've loved everyone's contributions.
Craig - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for being so generous. I figured that I should just jump in and record. No use just thinking about doing it right?
Tony - Thanks mate! I'm following your lead and trying to post more. This busking business has made me finish off songs I've started and then let lapse. It's great. BTW - Do you like my new gorgeous new Larrivee? Isn't she a beauty? Doesn't she have a lovely ring to her? Got her from a sweet fella I know that also has GAS, I think he may be cured though. The video quality really doesn't do her justice. Converting from Imovie format to avi really degrades things.
Jason - Thanks for your kind words. The warts were pretty obvious, but I'll take the compliment. You crack me up with the 'young lady' stuff. At 44, I'm probably older than you are. In fact I nominate myself for the 'TG member to grow the most new grey hairs in 2010' award. Happy holidays to you too.
Chris - Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I would LOVE to hear you play and sing this. I'm sure that would make me cry. BTW - thanks again for creating the 'Busking with TG' idea. It was a stroke of brilliance. Now I know with a repertoire like yours that you have a squillion love songs just bursting to come out. Hmmm... maybe you will challenge Vanessa to the next posting position.
Marc - Thanks, that is so nice to hear. I've learned a lot by following your example of tackling songs that take a long-time to get right. (Mind you I think I need to learn some easier stuff too so I've got some good sing-a-long material). There are no intricate chords really, just a moving bass line. It's a great song to learn. I think you'd like it.
Chas - Thanks mate. Does the Police Band do any love songs? Hey that would be a great video to post up here.
Songman - A big thanks. An experienced performer like you... love songs, you've just got to have them. It's been a while since we've seen you play. Unless I've missed something.
Well, I was tempted to egg you all into posting a love song individually, but I resisted the temptation. But, I know some of the songs that some of you are learning (or have learned), that there's lots of love songs out there and lots of them in your song books so who's up next.
Thanks again for all your kind words.
I hope you all have a great holiday season.
Michele

Thanks Stuart. So not cheery??...
OK, I fess up. I'm learning Happy Together and the double barres have me stuck a little in the learning slooooooooow lane. So I figured I'd finish something else and post it and get a new busking thread going.
Thanks for commenting.
