Absolutely Tony. And where lyrics are not so clear or even cryptic there is more space to interpret the song. Maybe songs are at their best when they trigger dream- like associations in the listener. Whatever the song conjures in the listener's head gives meaning. Bob Dylan and Toad the Wet Sprocket are two who keep you wondering about what's going on in the song.At the timer, I'm sure most people thought Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds was about LSD rather than Julian Lennon's classmate ... and may be the song wouldn't have been so hip either if the truth were known.I do pay a good deal of attention to lyrics as you mention and I go out of my way to understand, or at least try to interpret what the writer was trying to say. I felt that is what Dennis had done.

Well the Beatles tune is one we can debate Chris. I firmly believe it was about LSD and the kids drawing story was a convenient cover. Of course, if one believes that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is just a coincidence and that John Lennon took a great deal of interest in kids homework when he paid almost no attention to his son Julian whatsoever than the story checks out.Absolutely Tony. Tony! Man did go to the moon! You had me laughing my head off there! I know what you mean, at some point you don't know what to believe and we all have to keep our minds in some quantum state on so many things (is the Cat in the box dead or alive: no it's both!). My head still hurts after watching a program on reality last night... latest idea is that we could be holograms! WHTF? Apparently no one understands it any way. But really, I think you can trust John on this as he talked about it years later after admitting taking every drug available and writing Cold Turkey so I think we can be sure that he wasn't covering up... and there is one thing about John's songs, they are brutally honest and that's my impression of him. Some times the truth is banal. Paul on the other hand... well a little Obladi Oblada!
Good start to my day!

Bloomin heck, I go away for a few days and you guys get up to all sorts of shenanigans! Great marathon Chris, superb voice as always and production wow that deserves a big [strike]crap[/strike] clap!
Tony maaate! Awesome, when I read which song I honestly thought naaa, but you pulled it off, was waiting for the flute solo though. Wonder if it can be added in..
Great job to both of you.

so tony which one is it Knights or nights? im going nights as knights in white satin sounds a bit soft and not very scary
Fpicking is hard FP and singing is just stupid hard but you did both really well, hats off to you . great job, very tough song to sing plus it sounds like they use a few effects on the high bits, you did well B)
you have your own stage presence happening there

I had thought that this was self-evident, but apparently it wasn't. When I use the term "metaphor," I'm not referring to the author's intent -- I'm referring to the listener's inference. Really, I enjoy fleshing out the metaphor, so please allow me to continue wallowing in my delusions. I've made a nice living off of it so far.On Tony's Nights in White Satin, I mentioned to Al back last year that there were no noblemen with swords on horseback galloping around in that song ... it was a reference to white satin bedsheets. I like your metaphor but I don't think that's what Justin Hayward had in mind at the time.

Dennis, it's a beautiful metaphor and if you created it then congratulations, i love it. We are all free to take what we want out of a song as we hear it and this song provokes so many dream-like associations. I didn't intend to burst anyone's bubble by pointing out that Justin's inspiration was triggered by a present of bed sheets! I just thought that most people wouldn't know that and may be interested. May all our delusions be so happy and profitable!I had thought that this was self-evident, but apparently it wasn't.
