Suzi- Well, thank you very kindly! It is a good thing you commented, because I was furious you hadn't already! He heh he. (It isn't like you haven't before or anything...no need for apologies.) Thank you for the nice things you said about Krista's vocals. It is all magic to me. I asked where she learned to do that ...and she just says: "I dunno I've always been able to just sorta do it." She did have a helluva good music department in her high school. But I think she just is very natural about it. I am optimistic what her and I together might be able to get accomplished because we almost never play together because of our schedules. So I am optimistic for open mics if we actually practiced together.
And I am glad you like the song. Iron & Wine has some great stuff. I can't listen to it all the time of course...but is darn fine songwriting. Thanks Again!! Hey,
Suzi how about uploading that Hall & Oates number? Hee Heh!

Dennis Just like I told Suzi, I was irate you hadn't commented! lol!...I can't even type that with a straight face. Thank you very much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I certainly respect & greatly appreciate whatever advice. tips, encouragement, or constructive criticism you offer up. I know there is a lot of experience and knowledge behind what you say. So thank you very much! And, not to bring up something you might not want to be thinking about but,...may you be healthy until a ripe old age. And, as far as open mics to come this year. I wish you all the luck of the guitar gods. (not that ya need it.) B) Thanks Again. :)

Well yes I’m finally adding something to this thread. This is Suzi’s suggestion, The Joker, and it really IS the quintessential 3 chord song: I, IV,V. I’m playing the campfire-campfire version. It can be made a lot more interesting by bringing out the riff more and adding some of the other little bits happening in the song. But, I kept losing the damn words and cracking myself up so decided to keep it simple.

It is a fun song and one I intend to keep working on as it will be more fun as it develops. The album is much faster too, which again makes it more fun and less serious.

Thanks Suzi and everyone that’s added to this busking thread and the favourite 3/4 chord song thread.

Here are the chords and lyrics if anyone wants to learn them. Well who wouldn’t want to speak of the ‘Pompitous of love” right?? :)

The Joker - Steve Miller Band

All verses G C D C (repeat throughout for each line of lyrics)

Verse 1
Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
Some people call me Maurice
'Cause I speak of the pompitous of love

Verse 2
People talk about me baby
Say I'm doing you wrong, (doing you wrong)
But don't you worry baby, don't worry
'Cause I'm right here, right here, right here, at home

Chorus G C G C
G C D C
G C G C
G C D C

Chorus
Cause' I'm a picker, I'm a grinner, I'm a lover and I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun
I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

(repeated on album)

Verse 3
You're the cutest thing that I ever did see
Really like your peaches wanna shake your tree
Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, all the time
Ooo wee baby, I’ll sure show you a good time

Chorus
'Cause I'm a picker, I'm a grinner, I'm a lover and I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun
I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker
I get my loving on the run

(repeated on album)

Verse 4
People keep talkin' about me baby,
Say I'm doin' you wrong
Well don't you worry, don't worry, no don't worry mama
‘Cause I'm right here at home

Verse 5
You're the cutest thing I ever did see
Really love your peaches want to shake your tree
Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time
Come on baby now, and I'll show you a good time

Shel:

What a pleasant surprise young lady.... :)

One of my favorite driving songs of all time. My wife and I rock out to this on all road trips.... B)

I love all of the little runs you added in. Sure dresses up a simple three chord song to make it have more texture. As always, I truly love your hand position, and It was fun to sit back and just listen. This thread you started (along with Daryl) is going to turn into a true gem. Thank you for posting such a great tune!

Sorry to be the last one to the party here. Getting caught up on this thread, W-O-W! You guys have been awesome!

Daryl, your playing is great as always. Your steady bass and melody notes seem so effortless. Always an inspiration to me.

Krista & Cori, you two are awesome together and it comes across in your videos. Great job. I 'm not familiar with this song but very cool tune and very well done!

Michelle, Great job on a classic song. Your passing notes between chords were very well done. I'm envious because I'm struggling with those on the Beatle's. "I've Just Seen a Face". Your vocals were great as well.

Vanessa, your usual incredible self!

Yeah, I know the playing and memorizing the words to sing can be súch a pain, but you nailed that anyway, that was so very great to watch! I could even see tiny smiles, haha! :P

Well you kept us waiting for a little while, but it was só worth it! (yeah yeah yeah, you waited much longer for me getting my assignments down, haha! ;) ) You're great!!!

Shel,

If you gave me a thousand guesses as to which 3-chord song you'd post, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have thought of this one. Space cowboy ... indeed! Great job on this. Your playing, as always, was smooth and perfect. Hell, you could have posted three minutes of you eating a sandwich. and I would have been happy.
