Al, I just watched your latest version of this song. Wow, wow, wow! Man, I wish I had your voice. That was really amazing to watch. You've really got that harmonizing down perfectly. And, I didn't that singing of yours distracting some great playing either. :)

Well, I'm behind on the Busking Bread thread! First, Craig:

That was a really nice version of If! I would love to hear some vocals, but I agree that the original vocals are too high for anyone above the age of 12. Any normal person, anyway! But I bet you could find a range that would work for you, either by dropping down an octave and playing it open, as Daryl suggested, or capoing at various places. Good luck!

I'm also a closet Bread fan and a closet easy-listening fan. Your story about your childhood reminded me of my own. My middle sister was a metal head and my other sister was (literally) in the Barry Manilow fan club. I used to go from one room to another, jumping from Ozzy to Barry. And I still love both genres (along with many others). I'd love to see a version of Make it With You or Baby I'm a-Want You, both great Bread songs.

Al,

What was that I said about the vocals in Bread songs being too high for any normal person over 12? Al, you are officially abnormal. :)

That was amazing. I think that was the best song you've put up yet. Your voice sounded sooooo good and your guitar sounds just great. I liked the layered harmonies, though it sounds great without them too. What a treat!

Tony, I'm glad that you took a look. Thanks for the postive feedback, your support always means a lot to me.

Pierre, Thanks for considering this one, "In the bag"! It's a beautiful song that I've always wanted to learn.

Suzi, Sounds like we had similar childhood experiences with siblings and music! As a consequence, my itunes library ranges from Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music to Black Sabbath... and everything inbetween! Thank you for watching. I appreciate the support and advice on singing it.

Daryl- thanks. That's a pretty good idea- putting some student vids on the home page.  Maybe a before and after clip might be the way to go?

Tony- thanks. But I hope to never make you think about your loins again.  Really.

Pierre- Glad you liked it. But I also know that you've got the range to sing this song as well.  Care to give it a go?

Ken- thanks for checking it out.  You're a very supportive member.

Marc- love your humour re. the helium coffee.  I could've sang the whole thing an octave lower- but wanted to give this way a try.  And no, it's not a giant room.  I had a bit of reverb dialed in on the MicroBR.

Chris- I like that saying.  Where've I been?  Some work, some play.  No cruise ships.  Thinking about taking a pass on that job this year actually.  Don't know what I'll do for a new avatar though!!

Tom- thank you. What's next on the hit list for you?

Suzi- thank you? The whole falsetto thing was a risk.. Glad you liked it.
Im still waiting for my best effort.. One where I'm equally as happy with the singing AND guitar playing.

Dennis- that's kind of you to say. I'm looking forward to whatever song you chose to upload and introduce me to next. It's always a treat!

Mike- thanks. It's been a while between uploads for you. I still remember your great take of "Give A Little Bit". Anything on the back burner?

Al,

That was REALLY gorgeous. WOW!

The picking is just stunning, you transitioned from picking to strumming and back again with ease and your harmonies work beautifully. I love that you're singing now. You have a great voice. And the additional track make it sound professional.

Well the whole thing touched me. I even like the coffee intro and the little fluffs.

You're playing is inspiring.

Thannks.

Michele

Hello my TG friends. Here is an attempt at Bread's "Diary". I started working on it awhile ago. Work, raising kids, and life in general got in the way and I had to put it on the shelf. Today I decided to dust it off. However, it's still a little dusty!...
When I was a younger man, I broke the index finger on my left hand. As you can see, I can't make it go straight. Somedays this is an issue when playing barre chords, somedays not so much. Unfortunately, today it was. Usually on these days I just cave in and play the open chord. Today I was stubborn about it...
The song has two verses, a chorus, another verse, and another chorus. I only played one verse the first time through because, in my opinion, it gets a little repetitive if you're not singing it.
Thanks for watching.
Craig
