A long distance collaboration
I'm in for playing rhythm. I'm glad to see a date of January, though, since things will be busy with the holidays, and Emma's on winter break starting next monday until early January. I can do January 15th, though. I'm happy to play rhythm at the regular fret or capo'd up a few, whichever is needed. I have played this song, but of course I'd like to practice it as well. I think picking a tempo asap would be best, so that we can all start practicing it at that tempo.
Can I suggest a starting structure as shown below - played a 85bpm (which is close to the original I think)
Intro
Em7 / D Em (x2)
Harmonica
Em C D G (x3)
Em7 / D Em
Verse
Em C D G
Em C D G
Em C D G
Em / G /
C / / G
Em / G /
C / / G
Harmonica
Em C D G (x3)
Em7 / D Em
Verse Rpt
Harmonica
Em C D G (x3)
Outro
Em7 / D Em (x3)
Em / G /
C / / G
If anyone has any improvements to this (such as a verse for a lead guitar) then please feel free come forward. This is a first draft outline.

Good job reiver, Tovo, Wandoctor & everyone else. I also am glad this will be pushed back to next month as I think many of us have our hands full. I'll keep a watch on the thread & it's great we may have at least one female singer, maybe more are out there?? BTW Heyjoe, I may take you up on your offer for some assistance w/ Audacity. I've been struggling with it for 2 days now and progress in pretty slow. Gary

Don't worry that you're on the fast track to video fame, you will do great. The TG community is incredibly supportive and helpful, and we have all loved every one of the videos posted. The videos are really fun and easy to do, and the TG staff posted a great tutorial in the student videos thread in the forum. If you need any help at all, just ask. You will be shocked at the response you get for help.
I'm going to go start working on the Heart of Gold [strike]TG[/strike] reiver's lesson now......

What Wrench said Tammy. There's no discrimination here, once you are a member you are in if you want to participate, has nothing to do with how long you have been here, that's not the vibe of this site at all. You might want to be thinking about back up on Heart of Gold though as that's the 1st song not Harvest Moon!wammer wrote:Newbie no more! Sounds like everyone appreciates having a good amount of time to get it together for this. Rhythm part is the 1st step so get practicing. On the 15th of Jan I will do a check to see where we are at and get the videos rolling in to Wandoctor.
TG (Matt I assume but doesn't matter who) have announced our project to the World now via their latest newsletter so we are committed now!
I think you're awesome as well Reiver....are you blushing?? Seriously thanks heaps for the TAB.suziko wrote:Reiver is awesome.

I am tentatively offering to play bass. I won't have a lot of time to set up the technical side (no problem learning the song
), and I'm not absolutely sure I will be able to do it time. So, if anybody else offers I will withdraw and wait for the next one.

Some technical suggestions for the 'TG Players'. (I hope these are not too technical)
I had posted the "Stand By Me" collaboration video earlier. In one of our industry trade magazines, there was an article on 'The Making of the YouTube "Stand By Me" Video'. This article came out over a year ago and was targeted at geeky sound engineers like me. I have looked everywhere for that article to post here for you, but damned if I can't find it.
Sooooooo, here is my brief overview of how they did it.
If you will notice the first singer (Roger Ridley) has two microphones, one for his vocals and one for his guitar. These were recorded on seperate tracks. You will also notice that old Roger is NOT wearing headphones. Roger Ridley's performance was the "reference audio" for all other performers to listen to.
Next up is Grandpa Elliott. He is listening to Roger sing through the headphones and his actual singing is recorded 'acapella' on yet another track.
The same is true for Clarence Bekker and all of the musicians that follow in the video. They are all listening to the 'reference audio' and playing and singing along.
It would be best if you (Tony?) recorded a 'reference video' and post so that all of the other contributors can listen to it while they record their vocals, background vocals, harmony vocals, lead riffs, bass, drums, harmonica, rhythm, etc. contributions. Make sure you listen to the reference audio through some headphones so you ONLY record you contribution. (YES, I know it is difficult to record a harmony vocal acapella and submit it, but it's the finished product that counts!)
All of the contributions go to your audio/video engineer (Al?) and that's where the magic happens! I think it is something you will all be very proud of.
One final thought, for everyone playing a guitar or a bass, MAKE SURE you use a chromatic tuner before you record yourself. If the engineer has to do 'pitch change', it really screws up the timing of the video.
Hope this helps,
Bill
