I'm in New England. I am self taught. I played piano and trumpet before guitar. I've been using a thumb pick since I started playing finger style; over 40 years ago.

Self taught is impressive. but you've got to be a little more specific than "New England". I'm in southern Vermont, I believe BobR is near Boston, and there are some other somewhat active forum users in New Hampshire.
