Farewell Neil Armstrong a true American hero and a gentle man. I really liked this guy and am genuinely touched by his departure.

This is Marc Lavalee and myself jamming Man on The Moon a while back, a small tribute to a great man.

Great post Chris. Neil Armstrong really was a very nice fellow, I had the pleasure of meeting one time as my brother did some work on one of his cars when I was college.

Chas, How ironic you sent me that link a few hours ago before the news of Neils passing.

Very melodious, Chris and Marc ... loved that the first time, and it's still as good today. :)
Since it's so appropriate that you put this up then I won't feel too bad if the following is inappropriate ...

Man, what an adventure ... even back then we already were saying that Neil Armstrong was in the same historical category as Cristoforo Colombo (Christopher Columbus).
But who remembers that Eugene ("Buzz") Aldrin was the second man on the moon, just minutes after Armstrong had stepped onto the moon's surface ?

But Chris, as REM's song says: "IF YOU BELIEVE they put a man on the moon ..."

This is, of course, a reference to conspiracy theories that portray the moon landing as a hoax.
The following video aims to debunk this hoax theory, and there is a grungy part at about 2min30 seconds.
It shows a moment in 2002 when the 72 year old "Buzz" Aldrin had his fill of being repeatedly hassled by conspiracy theorists.
Whether Armstrong was of a cooler temperament than Aldrin, or felt obligation by his place in history ... he never lost it like this !

Anyway, the judge had the last word ... Aldrin's move was justified.

Please note that I'm not suggesting anyone else do the same if discussing the subject with supporters of the hoax theory :woohoo:

Down Goes Frazier! Down Goes Frazier!

Good for Buzz. He apparently had some trouble in life being "No. 2", but I think I would have done the same thing. Except that I would have led with the left.

Amusing that probably a bunch of us on this site are old enough to remember sitting in front of the TV watching those first steps. I certainly do.

I sat in class as a 5 year old and watched a grainy B&W TV, saw the most famous few steps in history and listened to those immortal words. It's always a little strange when such a powerful historical figure passes. RIP Neil Armstrong.

I remember watching the Moon landing and all that went with it, the actual walking on the moon, the Astronauts collecting samples etc, the final splashdown to Earth again. At the time I was very young and probably didn't fully appreciate what an amazing thing was happening then. You have to hand it to those guys, they went to the Moon on a wing and a prayer with the technology available then. I have a colleague at work who writes books on the Moon landing and has several Astronaut friends from Apollo missions and he explained how brilliant they were to get on and off the Moon. It was never even a certainty that they would ever get home again. Apparently the landing itself was a feat of great pilot skill. If they had gotten it wrong they would not have been able to leave the Moon.

R.I.P. Neil, a very talented and brave man.
