Your thumb has a mind of it's own it just keeps going.
I am trying thumb pick after seeing your video, my thumb still needs plenty of training.

Still searching for the comfortable pick
I think the one I have is too tight and cuts into the thumb....( a medium).
I thought i was okay when I bought it, though the large would be too big :S

Dermot
Well your thumb must be a in a sort of swingin shape 'cos you played ''black bird..

For me on this moment the medium is okay (dunlop),,it was to tight also,,you can fix that,,tip..take two cups..one with hot water and one with cold..throw the medium pick in the hot water for 25 seconds,,get it out with a spone or something else,,put it on a tissue,,then put it on your thumb and stick your thumb with the pick in the cold water,,so it becomes less tight,,maybe do the procedure twice...but keep experimenting with others also,,i have also a metal one from Dunlop..

Nice Dermot..don't give up...try it so now and then on songs your comfort with..

edit: If you want I can give you a link for a good exercise..

I'll try that hot and cold trick with the pick and let you know how I get on.

If you post a link, Ill sure give the exercise a go.
I'm practicing Freight Train since Suzi mentioned it and it's coming on, but I still
need to the the feeling of an independent thumb. Although my thumb seems constant
it doesn't feel independent, but I'm getting there.

What do you think of the metal thumb pick, I thought metal might be a bit harsh on the
strings and sound so didn't get one.

Thanks

Dermot

I pm'd you,,

I thought the metal (nikkel, silver kind) would be harsh but its a kind of soft to my ears and smooth..but for me the Medium Dunlop(the brown one)is the one that does it,,I think also that the piece sticking out of my thumb is just right and I did the cold/warm trick 'cos it was to tight..

Thanks for the pm, would you be happy to give Chet Atkins - Trambone a vote for me in Recommend a Lesson?
It's a great Alternate Thumb Pick tune and would make a great lesson.

Click Trambone and vote.

Thanks

Dermot
