Pretty Flowers......

This is a collaboration between my daughter and I. I wrote this song about a month ago with a lot of encouragement from Sandy and Michelle. I just recorded it last night. The song is about someone who is contemplating their earlier than expected demise (Cheery right? :) )

The song is performed solely by Claire. Enjoy........... ;) :)

I'm in perfect agreement with Bob, great job by both of you. Very strong lyrics, Tom. And you couldn't ask for a better performer than Claire to deliver your song. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

WOW! I didn't catch all of the words, but I sure felt the emotion. That's a real tear-jerker.

You've got a great songwriting team there. And oh my! Claire's performance, her singing especially just shoots straight through to the heart strings. The soaring chorus and harmonies are especially powerful.

Wow!

Shel

Thanks Shel,
got it recorded at last. Glad you liked it. Here are the words:

Pretty Flowers In the Wilderness By Tom N.
VERSE 1:

C G AM EM
Pretty flowers in the wilderness
F C DM G
Reminds me of a time that…….. we …… knew best
C AM
Running wild and running free
EM F G
Sunshine beating down….. on me
C G AM EM F G
Wandering along life’s highway, know not where it goes, or how long it lasts

CHORUS:
F C AM EM
Sweet summertime will you miss me?
F C AM EM G
Sweet summertime will you miss me or even care?

VERSE:2
C G AM EM
Pretty flowers in the wilderness
F C DM G
Blowing free you’re loved and you’re caressed
C G AM
All dressed up in pretty colours soon we will be
EM F G
gone like the seasons come and go.

CHORUS:
F C AM EM
Sweet summertime will you miss me?
F C AM EM G
Sweet summertime will you miss me or even care?

VERSE: 3
C G AM EM
Pretty flowers in the wilderness
F C DM G
Your vision of loveliness is so blessed
C G
Say goodbye to the birds in the trees
AM EM F G
butterflies and those great big bees around me
C G
I’m leaving soon I don’t want to go
AM EM F G
The reason escapes me someday I may know

CHORUS:
F C AM EM
Sweet summertime will you miss me?
F C AM EM G
Sweet summertime will you miss me or even care?

VERSE: 4
C G AM EM
Pretty flowers in the wilderness
F C
It’s just so hard to leave you now
DM G
I send you my best
C G
The little birds are singing in the sky
AM EM F G
Unafraid and flying high so high so high
F G C AM
Flying so high in the sky
F G C C
Flying so high in the sky

Sorry the formatting doesn't work too well here, so some of the chords although correct, don't fall where they should be played, :(

Thanks for the words Tom. You've got some nice imagery in there. The mix of nature in the summer and the sadness of leaving is a nice juxtaposition.

One suggestion - almost all of the images are about the seasons and nature generally. The reference to the highway suddenly takes you to an unnatural environment. A river or walking track or something you travel along in nature would make the line more consistent with the rest of the song.

Very nice job.

I see what you mean Shell. The Highway refers to the journey the person is on. It ends where it ends.

I really like that it is so far from the beauty of nature. Contrast if you like.

Ahhh I get it. A sudden contrast can definitely bring your attention to something.
