This one took a lot of work; no matter how hard I try, I can't play it the same each time. I guess that's a good thing, but there are still some notes I want to hit but only do them once in awhile. I hope you enjoy my rendition.

Neil's review, added a few days later-
OK. I took Neil's advice to heart and practiced his suggestions. Here's the new version with the changes. I didn't do another video but thought it might be fun to add some harmonies. I hope you like it.
Neil, thanks for the lesson. I can't wait to meet you at ICG and maybe get some other suggestions.

James is mighty tough to play and even tougher to play AND sing. But you did a fantastic job! And as usual, quite impressive.

Nice work, Bill. B)
One of these days, maybe I'll learn to fingerpick, and that song is one of the reasons I want to learn the technique.
I don't know if JT ever really played it the same way twice, either. The duet with Joni Mitchell ("John Peel session" on YT) sounds different. (But still beautiful.)
One night a couple of years ago when my oldest granddaughter (now 6-y/o) didn't want to sleep (I think she mostly wanted me to hang out with her), I sang that for her. It worked.

Thanks really pretty Bill. JT's stuff really works for you. Actually it's not one I know.
Your thumbpick skills are really enviable. While I'm improving when I use one, I really only do that when I have a thumbnail tragedy, which luckily doesn't happen very much. Anyway you seem to be able to pick individual bass strings at will with no problems; that's very impressive in my books.
Thanks for sharing this lovely rendition.
