Ric- you're right on! Dylan is a poet/musician whose song writing is so good that it compensates for a weak voice. Neil Young is another one just like him. Too many poeple (like my wife) get caught up by their voices!

With Dylan, look at all the other bands that have covered him! For a song writer that is high praise!

I have the utmost repsect for Dylan as songwriter (as evidenced by the ten CD's I have of him). IMHO he is the best songwriter ever!

However, his songs tend to be more popular and accessible when covered by others, which was the question asked.

Agreed. And "ditto" about the "wasted" youth part. It is a relief to be past that phase and now can concentrate on wasting my adulthood.

You were right on the money with Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. I listened to Johnny Cash for 50 years, and I think this was most emotional and sincere performance of his I ever heard.

I liked it well enough that I learned to play it today! You can do that when you study at TG!

Day Tripper is way cooler than the original, as well as Like a Rolling Stone.

As far as modern bands go, Okkervil River does a GREAT cover of Elvis Costello's "Riot Act".
