I agree with a great many contributors' assessments of purveyors ghastly sound, but #1 on my list is not yet mentioned....

Credence Clearwater Revival.

I couldn't stand 'em 40 years ago, I can't stand 'em now, but somehow I just can't get away from 'em.

Ok first off my reaction to bands already mentioned.

Guns and Roses
Yea Axl Rose was and still has major issues. But for
me Appetite for Destruction was and is a awesome album.
But it is funny. When I first listened to it I had to
listen to it at least 3 times to come to really like it.
After that...totally down hill.

Bruce Springsteen
Almost same story here. Born in the USA was such a hot
album for me in college. I had a cassette in my car and
bought 3 copies of this album to listen driving around. It
was the only thing I listen to for about 3 years.

Queen
Another one bites the dust rocked it for me in high school.

Twisted Sister
We aren't going to take it. Makes them worth one song. The
rest not so much.

Billy Joel
Many good songs. Too many to mention. Lots of talent too.

CCR
Love there stuff. It is simple but catchy most of the time.

Beatles
Ok this band is a wierd one for me. 3 years ago I would have
had no problem with them here. This is part of my mothers brain
washing. She liked Elvis and hated these guys. So she got me to
hate them without ever sampling there music. WRONG....

Ok now for truly bad bands. This is hard because if they are bad
I truly don't listen to them.

Already mentioned:
Metallica. Never could get into there stuff.

Kiss. Yes I have watched and liked Gene Simons reality show.
He is quite the character. But there music does nothing for me.

But we can go lower:

Donny and Marie Osmond. ick. Too much bubble gum content.

Partridge Family albums. Come on get Happy...ick...

David Hasseloff. Yea he is over in Germany. But not here so much and not with me.

Any music with William Shatner or Lenord Nimoy in it. There are a few tracks.

Bing Crosby

Bob Hope

Sammy Davis Junior

Wayne Newton

liberace - with this one I stop.

Quincy,
Man you're freakin me out. Liberace??!! Whoa dude. You need to get your prescription refilled. I don't know of anyone that even admits to listening to him.

Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. C'mon. They don't even count. They are actors messing around with music as an experiment.

Bing Crosby could sing. I may not care for his choice of songs, but he was a real crooner. Makes most singers today look like screech owls in a bathtub.

Bob Hope. LOL this is a guy that was just having fun and did not care if you got the joke or not.

Wayne Newton. With the single exception of 'Daddy don't you walk so fast' He was just way too much lounge lizard to even make the list.

CCR, they have a few that are ok, but when I hear 'Proud Mary' I break out in hives and have the strong desire to strangle someone.

Bruce. Another Dylan. Great writer, can't stand the voice.

Guns-n-Roses. Love 3 songs by them, the rest of it is junk. Too much attitude for me.

Queen. Some really great music. Freddie and I would never agree on his life style choices, but man could he sing.

Beatles. These four guys did so much to re-write the worlds perception of music along with Buddy, Ritche, Chuck and a few others. It matters not one whit if others get more number 1 hits, they will never touch the level of influence that the mop tops had, and still have. Do I like all their stuff? Nope. Love lots of it, think some of it sux monkey toes. But I have metric tons of respect for them.

Elvis. Hmmm... I can think of nobody else more deserving of black velvet paintings.

I guess it's my professional life that has kept me away from this longest thread for so long it gives me a very positive orientation so I just skipped this thread.... 'til now as I'm feeling a bit frisky this evening! My 5 rappen's worth (100 rappen= 1 Swiss Frank):
Slade
The Sweet
Bay City Rollers
John and Paul's work just after leaving the Beatles and playing with their wives in the line up
The entire eighties (almost)
Joan Baez
..... bet I didn't step on any toes there...

If the topic as a whole hadn't done it (a bunch of middle-aged, barely literate men culturally and intellectually stuck in 1972, sitting in a virtual treefort arguing over which bands rock, and which suck), then this:

>life style choices

is enough to put me off the forums entirely.

But I did like the dude who said "the whole 80s" were bad.

Now, I will leave you to your mullets, your mustaches, your sick prejudices, your paneled basements, your beer signs, your subscriptions to Playboy (because the old lady won't let you have Penthouse), your always-on televisions, your Foghat 8-tracks, your mirrored bifold closet doors and your ridiculously overlarge vehicles and abdomens.
