John Butler Trio

A buddy at work somehow found out I was learning guitar (I'm trying to keep a low profile until at least I learn my barre chords better). Not a musician himself he asked me if I could learn to play like John Butler. "Who's that?" I naively inquired.

So I looked him up on youtube and here's a sample. I told my buddy to lower his expectations about a thousand or more percent. Yikes! I expect that no amount of practice could ever get me to this level. At some point I believe natural talent must be part of the exceptional guitarist recipe.

My musical tastes have expanded after joining TG due to all your postings, (Thank you all so much!) so I thought I would share with you an artist I just found out about and hope y'all enjoy it. I know I did

Good post surfer. John Butler Trio is a great band. Another "imported" Aussie...aren't we all I guess!? John Butler has a very strong following here in Australia, glad to see he is recognised elsewhere also.

Oh yeah, I practice exactly like that every day. Duh!
What did the man say... "I'll play that again slowly... if I can" !!
OMG!

Wow! Wow! That was greats stuff. I guess if I could ever play like that I wouldn't need TG anymore. Does anyone know what tuning he is using on the 2nd Vid?

What an amazing talented guy. Note he has removed the octave G string, also his nails are acrylics for those with soft nail problems this is the answer lol (well part of the answer the other is learning to play like that)

I feel really good about my ability to grow fingernails, not quite as good about my guitar playing abilities! Thanks for sharing though...I could watch him all day.

Butler is just further confirmation that when they passed out musical talent I missed the train, or boat or whatever. There are so many great guitarists out there.

Thanks for introducing me to another one! :cheer:
