I would like to think that I was on your mental list of "maniacs" before you posted!! Did you see Pierre's clips of Cry Baby Cry? I liked the guitar at the beginning of the "Unnumbered Rehearsal" version.

I think maybe he means attempting a high-pitched voice, like Smokey Robinson?
