I am working on this song, and I found an incongruency in the tutelage.

The Right Hand video describes the 8-note arpeggio as 4 notes down on the 6th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd strings; then 4 notes up on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings. It explicitly identifies this pattern for the second chord of the song, Dm11. Refer to 1:14 - 1:20 of the Right Hand video.

The Left Hand video describes the technique of laying down notes in the order they are played. The video twice shows applying the notes in the Dm11 as 3rd finger at F on the 4th string, 1st finger at C on the 2nd string, then the 4th finger at G on the 1st string. In order to follow the 8-note arpeggio pattern, the order would be 3rd finger at F on the 4th string, 4th finger at G on the 1st string, and 1st finger at C on the 2nd string. Refer to 0:42 - 1:06 of the video, with emphasis at 0:53 and 1:03.

Just so you know I'm paying attention.

Ouch!

Wrench, if this is true, and I might have to wait a couple of years to go back and look at it, your TARGET membership is seriously in jeopardy, or you may be the 1st member to receive the 'Special Assessment', which will raise your monthly membership about 1027%. I'll get back to you when I can review the implications and accusations.

Neil, I certainly meant no criticism of the TG material, I was merely pointing out that your students really do pay attention. After all, the Spot the Slip thread is a TG Admin thread, not a member thread.

Can there be any greater honor to Sensai than Grasshopper confirming the lessons?

Does that help any with the 'Special Assessment'?

Hey Wrench,

I just looked at the videos and see where the confusion came from. On the G chord, the string order is 6-5-4-3-1-2-3-4 but on the Dm11 the 5th string is not hit, making the order 6-4-3-2-1-2-3-4. I did say you do the same thing on the next chord, meaning 4 downs then 4 ups, and the video shows me skipping the 5th string on the Dm11, which is how it goes. I hope that clears it up as I think the finger order as described in the videos is correct. I should have pointed out the skipping of the 5th string on Dm11 but it definitely slipped through the cracks. I hope the TAB reflects the correct finger order...

Thanks for paying so much attention!

Neil

Yep, the TAB shows the 5th string being skipped.

Thanks for looking into the details, Neil.

And that's why Grasshopper is, well, Grasshopper.

Old man, how is it that you can hear the grasshopper?

Young man, how is it that you can not?

And that folks is why we pay Neil the big bucks!
