In conversation recently about pets dogs with the 8 year old son of a friend of my, the lad mentioned he was not allowed to have a dog. I ask if he had ever had a pet and he said he had a pet snail named Jerry. I ask if the snail did any trick and he said not that he did not come out of his shell much. His two other sibling began to tease him as say Jerry was dead. The boy insisted the snail was only hibernating. I got inspired and wrote a song, before I had a chance to play it for him, he admitted that Jerry infact was dead. I incorporated this tragedy, in a final verse.

The song "JERRY THE HYBERNATING SNAIL" goes as follows:

1 Don't have a dog, Don't have a fish.
Don't have a cat, But I can wish.
Don't h ave a boat, That I can sail,
But that all right, Cause I've got my pet nail
CHORUS}
Jerry, The hibernating snail,
Don't move to much, Don't leave no trail.
Jerry, up in side his shell,
Hope he comes out, He's my pet snail.

2Came out one day, to look around,
And what he saw, It got him down.
It made him mad,He had his fill,
Went back inside, And he's in there still.

3 Hope he come out, Just one more time.
Some say he's gone, I pay no mind.
I'll stay right here, and keep on waiting,
Cause he's not gone, He's ... h;hibernating.

[REPEAT CHORUS]

4 As it turned out, One fateful day,
Jerry was gone, He'd Passed away.
He's gone for good, No fond farewell.
Now all that's left is, an empty shell.

FINAL CHORUS
Jerry, The hibernating snail,
He's gone for good, Just an empty shell.
Jerry, Why'd you have to go?
It could be worse, He could be Escargot.

Thanks to all for viewing and commenting on the song.

It was lots of fun to compose.
The tune is simple C's and F's and G's.
Have yet to play it for the tike, but a few of the folks that have heard it like Chasplaya, laughed but ask about Escargot.

After I heard about Jerrys demise, I felt I had to incorporate it in a verse.

Escargot I though would add a bit of humor to the event.

Works on the older folks, but Chasplaya is right, how do you explain Escargot.

I hope the song doesn't traumatize the lad.

My next door neighbor (Diane) has a small dog named Paris. Diana talks Paris "walking" most often in a baby carriage.
Not what most folks would consider the outdoors type, at about as far as they go is to the mail box at the end of the street.
I working on my next big hit " Ms Diane and Paris"

What is this--inspired by pet death week? I just got home from vacation yesterday to find our pet Tortoise dead. I haven't checked with the neighbor girl who took care of him and our cats because she is on vacation now too. I am thinking she dropped him accidentally...

Anyway, I sat down last night and wrote him a "death song." I usually do not write sad-feeling tunes but thought this was appropriate. Sorry guys, gingold doesn't do lyrics (usually)--it's an instrumental.
