Thanks for that. I'll look for the comma after "bandit" in my sheet music. Feel/steel. Yep, thought of that. Also, in a larger sense, the world could feel the fear of knowing Pancho would shoot without much provocation.

I also thought there might be an old gang called "Bandit Boys" and Pancho was one. Like saying he was a Hell's Angel. Pretty far fetched!

I guess I've changed a lot of lyrics.

"Somebody's knockin'
Would you look at him?
Lord, it's the devil.
Should I let him in?
I've heard about him, but I never dreamed
He'd have blue eyes and blue jeans."

Now, I can't sing that, but I can sing this:

"Somebody's knockin'
Should I crack the door?
Lord, it's the devil
She's walkin' 'cross my floor!
I've heard about her, but I never dreamed
She'd have blonde hair and blue jeans."

ADULT LYRICS FOLLOW

Buffet (re-written):

"I got me some Viagra
Got some lubricant for you!
Honey, why don't we get drunk
And try to screw."

Lost a couple of women over that one!

Frankly, I don't see any harm in it. Didn't Weird Al Yankovic make a career of it? I'm sure he had permission.

Way to much.............

Sam

Help! I'm typing and I can't shut up!

Just one more..........

At Karaoke, when the KJ was fumbling to get my song and I was just standing there looking silly, I'd do my best Joplin.

"Oh, Lord
I done stole me
A Mercedes Benz!
Please hire me a lawyer;
Please call all my friends.
I must go to prison;
I must make amends!
Oh, Lord
I done stole me
A Mercedes Benz"

I'll try to stop!

Pancho and Lefty! Great tune indeed! Townes let Willie have this one for free. Pancho and Lefty was one of TVZ's songs which has many therories as to the meaning of the song and/or words. Townes never really told anyone what the song was about. Even Jeanene (third ex-wife) has a different story. Townes said he wrote "Pancho and Lefty" while in a hotel room in Dallas with a friend named Daniel. He said, "Billy Graham and Guru Maharaji were both in Dallas at the same time and there were no (decent) hotel rooms for 50 miles." The room they found did not have a TV, or Coke machine, and had a swimming pool with a crack in it. Townes said, "there was nothing to do! Not a very fun place to be. So on the second day, I sat down in a chair and decided I'm not going to move from this chair until I write a song. I sat there for about three and a half hours and that's when 'Pancho and Lefty' kinda drifted through the window. I wrote it down or I would still be sitting there." Townes also said "I figure that Billy Graham and the Guru Maharaji kinda co-wrote "Pancho and Lefty" but I never heard anything from them, so I guess it's okay." (From the book "To Live's To Fly") by John Fruth.

This was one of the true stories Townes told about how he wrote the song.

Townes believe all of his songs were "Channeled" through him as did some of his friends/family. Probably why he did not like changing the lyrics?

I remember reading that The Doors were asked to change the line from 'Light my Fire' that goes 'Girl we couldn't get much higher' to 'Girl we couldn't get any better'....from what I understand Jim Morrison agreed and then sang it the way it should be with gusto when the live camera was rolling. I hope that story is true. If it isn't...it should be.

When the Stones appeared on the Ed Sulivan Show they had to change the lyrics of Lets' Spend the Night Together to" Lets spend some time together" apparently because Americans weren't allowed to have sex with each other in the 60's.

If you listen carefully, Mick forgets to sing the "softer" version at 0:57 and remembers at 1:03 (and rolls his eyes) and the rest of the song they more or less sing "spend some time together" or"lets make the night together". Looking back on censorship always seems hilarious the further away from the Zeitgeist you are. If I watch BBC these days, there's almost not a show (except Tele Tubbies) without a smattering of F*** or other formally unmentionables.

We're still not allowed to have sex with each other. That's why we go to England on vacation.

Lol! ;-)
Dennis, in the early 60's the Brits were the last to be having any sex! These days Britain has the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe. Average age for first sex is between 13 - 15!!! I'm glad I wasn't a young man in either of these eras.

House of The Rising Sun lends itself wonderfully to playing around with the lyrics Wiley and I've done two versions in my time. One here for a TG competition and one in summer camp way back in '76. 35 years later, I can only remember the first and last verses.

There is a camp in Friendsville, PA
They Call the Liquid Sun
And its been the ruin of many a counsellor
And God I know I'm one

.... (damn, I'm missing some hilarious stuff here... well, it seemed that way at the time!)

So Hammy, tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Stay in and play Risk all day
In the camp of the liquid sun

We had too much rain that summer and Hamil S. Horne was the camp owner.

Only problem, Dennis, is that there is no one here anyone could possibly want to have sex with. Not that it slows down the locals, as Chris notes.

It may be in order to point out that singer/songwriters sometimes put out very different versions of a tune.

This is also a wink to the "Duncan" concert video that Dennis put up.
