You're talking about the line:

"Do you lose your way in the middle of the day
Do you see your brother crawling?
And all the while he's calling out for help from you?
Wah hoo wah hoo, wah hoo ..."

This is the part that I see as a commentary of sorts on the troubles of the World. He wants to help...but feels helpless. Hadn't really thought about the "wah hoo"...but note it is "wah hoo" not "woo hoo" (implying something to cheer about).

Nice idea on the Australian themed song thread.

Yeah, Tony I think you're onto something there with the "brother- bit." Your fellow brother i,e society...not the your flesh & blood brother. I think you might of hit the nail on the head with that interpretation. Good stuff!

Brother as in Native Indian thinking...
Yeah, that ain't a bad read either, could be...definitely bigger than the literal meaning of the word "brother" for sure!

It all makes a lot of sense. But why 'wah hoo..."?

I found this:

"The follow-up to that worthy single, which proved to be one of Russell's msot enduring works, also peaked at #13 in December 1972. "Wings Of An Eagle" was a beautiful, lushly-produced and typically multi-faceted song from Russell's own pen, and he put in an astonishing vocal performance. With this number, Russell explored his growing interest in theosophy and the concept of Red Indian spiritual guides".

It appears Dermot is onto something.

Dropping in late here. Have not read the entire thread...

Brother is Mankind in general it seems.
The Eagle is whatever it is that lifts him up to a new, cleaner, higher perspective.
The verses are how he feels while trapped on the ground with his 'brothers',
and the chorus is how he feels when he rises above it all.

It's a sad commentary on the state of man, but has a possible solution included.

My 2 cents.
